This study aims to define the appropriate capacity of diving sites in the area. It will then be possible to manage diving sites facing degradation in a correct and sustainable manner.
The project is divided into nine phases:
- Review of authorized diving clubs’ operating models, with an analysis of models’ pros and cons;
- Values and risk identification of the diving sites proposed by the clubs using specific analysis;
- Introduction of a mandatory registration system of diving clubs’ activities (including total numbers and descriptions) for planned sites inside the Protected Marine Area;
- Description, definition and documentation of sites and of underwater routes and paths;
- Recognition, description and documentation of sensitive areas and potential impact causes inside the sites and underwater routes;
- Compilation of a checklist and visual techniques to control and monitor the impact of activity on sensitive areas along underwater routes and paths;
- Estimation of capacity for each underwater route and path;
- Creation of alternative sites and paths;
- Creation of strategies to improve underwater tourist service in relation to the Protected Marine Area’s mission of conservation, while also creating qualification measures for Dive Center operators.
