AMP Tavolara - Punta Coda Cavallo is a node of Sardinia Regional Network for Marine Fauna Conservation
Tavolara was historically ruled by a King, while in Molarotto a little Queen reigns – this queen has a dark coat with light blue spots, and the slender body and moves quickly along the rocks of the island.
This queen is the Podarcis tiliguerta ronzii, a little lizard that is not found elsewhere; it is endemic of Molarotto and therefore must be protected.
For this reason, the Protected Marine Area has instituted the “Podarcis Project.” This project studies the status of the Podarcis population in Molarotto and will update the checklist for the population of the islands inside the protected area.
The monitoring of the Podarcis tiliguerta ranzii allows for the estimation of the population and an analysis of the diet and reproduction methods.
