The brown grouper (Epinephelus marginatus) this species populates the rocky and posidonia beds where it finds appropriate dens. The species presents a sexual inversion phenomenon called proterogyny. The animal becomes sexually mature as a female around the 40 cm of length; the regression of the ovaries and the development of the testicles happens when it reaches the 80 cm, around the 9-12 years of age. This is a very long-lived species, it can live up to 40 - 50 years. Privileged prey of underwater sport fishing, however, it has become a symbol of many MPAs and a great attraction for underwater tourism. In the MPA of Tavolara Punta Coda Cavallo there is an abundant population.

The corvina (Sciaena umbra) this species lives from 10 to 200 metres deep in coastal waters on rocky or sandy bottoms forming small groups. It prefers dark caves or deep cracks in the middle of rocky coasts. It almost always stays close to the entrance of the burrows in numerous herds where it swims slowly. It feeds on small fish and crustaceans. The reproduction of this species takes place from May to July.

The basking shark  (Cetorhinus maximus) lives between the surface and 2000 m of depth generally moving in groups of 2 - 3 individuals. It feeds on planktonic organisms that it captures by swimming against the current near the surface with its large open mouth, holding them with the help of special gill arches made up of gills made up of 1000-3000 corneous gills.
